Juvederm – Anti-Aging Treatment

Juvederm Treatment Columbia, MD

Juvéderm treatment is a collection of injectable hyaluronic dermal fillers used to help reverse the appearance of aging. This includes things like wrinkles, folds, and even lip augmentation!

What is Juvéderm?

Every product in the Juvéderm collection has varying concentrations and bonding of hyaluronic acid. Each product is designed to treat specific issues when injected into different body parts and at certain depths. They temporarily add volume to that area and give the skin a smoother appearance. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the best results.

Juvéderm products have a smooth, gel-like consistency. They are created using Hylacross technology to produce a smooth, modifiable gel. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body and triggers the production of collagen for healthy-looking skin. Aging causes a decrease in the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen, thus causing sagging and wrinkling in the face. Explore the different types of Juvéderm mentioned below.

The types of Juvéderm products include:

  • Juvéderm Voluma XC, which enhances the volume beneath the skin’s surface to improve the contour and size of the cheeks
  • Juvéderm XC and Juvéderm Vollure XC, which help to correct loss of skin elasticity and smoothes out wrinkles and lines around the nose and mouth
  • Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Volbella XC, which are used for nonsurgical lip augmentation procedures

What to expect during Juvéderm treatment

During the initial consultation, the patient and the aesthetician will discuss expectations for the procedure. There is no need for extensive preparation since the procedure is minimally invasive and can be completed on the same day.

Simple instructions may be to avoid pain meds such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Drinking alcohol and smoking is also not advisable in the weeks leading up to treatment, and the aesthetician will also need to know about any allergies and sensitivities you may have.

During the procedure, the aesthetician will make markings on the site to be treated before injecting Juvéderm into the target area. They will rub the area lightly for even distribution and to minimize the risk of swelling. The entire procedure lasts about 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the treated area.

Aftercare

Patients are generally advised to stay away from heat exposure, makeup application, strenuous exercise, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours of treatment. This is to minimize redness, itching, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. Placing an ice pack on the swollen part can also help. The aesthetician will let you know when it is safe to apply makeup.

Final note

The effects of Juvéderm treatment are mostly noticeable immediately, or after the initial swelling subsides. The result of treatment generally lasts for about nine months to two years, depending on the Juvéderm product used. Smaller injections are required for additional treatment.
